Capture the Sign

Land management agencies within the Department of the Interior have been directed to review all public-facing signs and exhibits and remove any that “inappropriately disparage Americans past or living…” Historians, curators, and community members are concerned that removal of these signs and exhibits could erase portions of our Nation’s history and information about climate change.
What can you do to preserve your site’s history?
- Have your Friends group create a site to store and upload images, or have someone save the photographs on their own devices, or on a shared drive. You may want to consider an offline storage solution such as an external hard drive or thumb drive.
- Get out to your Refuge or Hatchery and take photos of signs and messages.
- Upload the images to the site your Friends group has created.
- Please don’t upload images with people in them, you will want to protect people’s privacy.
- Don’t procrastinate because any “inappropriate” sign must be removed on or about November 20, 2025.
